The HP LaserJet 5100 printer family makes a great choice for an office that needs fast wide format printing that does not sacrifice quality or productivity. HP has engineered laser printers that give offices dependable printing using many different sizes and types of media. The base model comes equipped to handle 350 sheets of paper. Its multipurpose tray will hold 100 sheets of paper and standard tray 250 sheets of paper. A second 250 sheet tray can be added to bring the total capacity of this machine to six hundred sheets. The upgraded models can have these same capacities; however a standard 500 sheet paper tray is included so they can hold a total of 1,100 sheets of paper. These options mean you can spend less time changing paper to get the size you need for your prints.

HP encourages regular maintenance on these machines to keep them producing top quality prints for a long time. There are parts available to facilitate this maintenance. You can purchase both a roller kit and a regular maintenance kit.

All the laser printers in this family are monochrome. First print is available in thirteen seconds or less. Letter sized pages are printed at 21 ppm. The monthly duty cycle of this printer is rated at sixty-five thousand pages.

If you own the base model or the 5100tn model, duplex printing is not available unless you add the duplex unit as a option. This unit is standard on the 5100dtn machine. A wide range of papers are accepted in the printer that range from a three by five index card size to a tabloid 11 x 17 sheet of paper. Card stock is no problem nor is extra light weight paper. In addition, the machine will accept vellum, transparencies, bond or inexpensive copier paper.

When these machines were sold new they were designed to operate with Windows XP. They also worked with previous Windows OS. Transition to Vista or Windows 7 should be smooth. The printer is able to communicate with computers using AutoCAD. There is little distortion in the prints and the maximum resolution is at 1,200 dpi. This is a excellent printer for prints from drafting teams.

The HP LaserJet 5100 printer uses some of the most innovative technology from HP. It is excellent at paper-handling and gives the best quality prints at an acceptable speed using HP compatible toners. This network printer is one of the best choices for use in a general office environment, for CAD, finance, marketing or desktop publishing. It will work well for a work group requiring monochrome prints that are the highest of quality. It can make prints that are from three by five to a full eleven by seventeen.
